🛑 What to Do When This Light Comes On
Step 1: Drive at highway speed (60+ mph) for 20-30 minutes at steady RPM. This allows the engine to reach the temperature needed for passive DPF regeneration. Do not turn off the engine until the light goes out.
⚠️ What happens if you ignore this light: Ignoring the DPF light leads to complete filter blockage. A completely clogged DPF cannot regenerate and must be replaced — cost: $2000-$5000. The light starts as amber — if it turns red the DPF is beyond regeneration.
🛠️ Technician's Notes: Diesel-specific. Short trips and city driving prevent DPF regeneration — this is the #1 cause of DPF failure. Take your diesel on a highway run at least once every 2 weeks.
